HearPlanet is the first talking tour guide for cell phones. Launched early in 2009, HearPlanet already has had over 500,0000 downloads. It provides global coverage with hundreds of thousands of locations and is currently in development for specific use of the National Parks.
Named one of the top 50 iPhone apps for 2009 by Tech Digest, Founder/CEO, Steve Echtman won 2009 Award for Top Silicon Valley Company and was a Keynote Speaker for MacWorld. Hear Planet has been featured in Apple’s full page iPhone ads in the NY Times and Wall Street Journal as well as National Geographic Adventure Magazine, United Airlines Hemispheres Magazine and more.
I understand HearPlanet was also selected by National Geographic as a top 10 application.
This is one example of how partnerships can be formed - not only around distribution of information - but through developing community around content.
